Epiphany

Christmas celebrations always bring a bit of magic with them, a fairy tale atmosphere. In Florence the spell continues on the day of Epiphany, with the evocative Cavalcade of the Three Kings.

Every 6th January, Florence awakens in a remote era, populated by lords on horseback, ladies in long dresses and flag-wavers. The Cavalcade of the three Kings recalls the traditional parade, dated 1417, in which male members of the Medici family also used to take part with enthusiasm. The historical procession winds its way through the main streets and squares of the historic center, involving the citizens in a truly picturesque experience. The parade celebrates the advent of the Three Kings to the sacred hut in Bethlehem to honour the new born with precious gifts. Today, the Three Kings on horseback lead the procession, followed by over 500 costumed people.
