Museums: extraordinary works of art and startling jewelry
Florence hosts some of the most famous museums in the world. It would be a shame not to visit them when you are in Florence.
Set aside a day that you can dedicate to discover this impressive Florentine culture.
Right in front of the San Firenze Suites & SPA you can visit the splendid church of San Filippo Neri and the prestigious Museo del Bargello.
In one minute, you can arrive at the Galleria degli Uffizi. Admire the masterpieces of artists such as Botticelli, Raffaello, Leonardo da Vinci, Mantegna, Giotto and so many others.
Then visit the Corridoio Vasariano, an elevated corridor that connects Palazzo Vecchio with Palazzo Pitti, which hosts an extraordinary collection of portrait paintings.
Right next to the Uffizi Gallery you will come across Ponte Vecchio and the magnificent Piazza della Signoria, dominated by the awesome sight of Palazzo Vecchio and the Torre di Arnolfo.
Observe the copy of the David of Michelangelo, the Loggia dei Lanzi and the recently added Museo Gucci.
Still another short distance on foot, you will find Piazza Santa Croce, the Galleria dell’Accademia and, obviously, the Cathedral and the Battistero. Look at its fascinating cupola designed by Brunelleschi.
Consult the calender of events and exhibits held in the Palazzo Strozzi and Strozzina. You can reach the church of San Lorenzo and the Cappelle Medicee where the engrossing tombs of the Medici family are located.
In addition to these jewel-like sites, there are other fascinating places to visit. These are off the beaten track yet not less enchanting. It would be worth your while to visit the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, where semi-precious stones are artistically turned into cherished objects and beautiful artifacts.
Today it is considered one of the most important restorations institutes in the world. Stop at the Antico Setificio Fiorentino where you can discover the secrets of very esteemed silk products.
The Museo Casa Martelli is a medieval noble residence with very many interesting remembrances of the past.
If you wish to spend an afternoon in the open air, tour the Giardino Bardini, with its breathtaking view of Florence and the museum dedicated to the painter Pietro Annigoni.
The view from Piazzale Michelangelo and The Giardino delle Rose with its sculpture by Folon is a must.
The beautiful San Miniato al Monte and the Chiostro dello Scalzo with the frescos created by Andrea del Sarto alone are worth the journey.
